Investigating
More potholes than road
Reported via mobile in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 21:49, Mon 15 April 2024
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 5857660.
Multiple pot holes along Derngate from 78 thro to the theatre. It gets like this every year and we’ve been here 4 yrs now. Road has failed next to previous patch repairs as well as new potholes. The whole road needs resurfacing It’s dangerous / pedestrians are getting soaked when water ponds in holes. There are wires hanging out of some holes There are loose stones everywhere which are being kicked up from the road to the pavement Our house shakes every time large vehicles go through them. It’s incredibly noisy when large vehicles drive over which is often as buses and Lorry’s frequently use this road. This is supposed to be the cultural quarter and it’s a conservation area. Our house is really old, we are trying to preserve it in line with being in a conservation area, I’m worried as it shakes and rattles the house and windows when vehicles drive thro the holes in the road.

It really isn’t acceptable to leave this until August…unless the council are planning to renew the entire road.

I went down this road(if you can it that) yesterday and what a disgrace it was!! There was so much traffic and all cars are trying to avoid the massive craters in the road. This whole stretch of road needs resurfacing before August. It will do serious damage to vehicles otherwise.

Hello, original requestor here. I’ve just delved into the councils planned works and see there was a scheme in the plan to resurface the whole of Derngate, however, it was due last October. It would be most helpful if the council would update here when they will complete these works, along with assurance it will go ahead in the very near future. Thanks.

Went through this road today at least a 100 metre stretch of heavy craters ended up bursting my tyre in one of them. They’re genuinely impossible to avoid as there are more potholes than road. Really unhappy with this

Hello Council. I am driving Derngate daily for the last 12 years and have to report from 15 June 2024, that the potholes are getting deeper, more numerous and sharper. The traffic last night was heavy due to the discharge of visitors from Theatre. Traffic very much bunged up, as car drivers are avoiding the potholes and blocking each other going past. Cultural Quarter has a high profile, 78 Derngate is the same. Urgent action to resurface the whole Derngate is required, in order to reduce embarrassment to Northampton Town reputation. Thank you.
