Loose and unsafe surface for wheelchair user
Reported via mobile in the Potholes / Highway Condition category by Suzanne Evers at 10:40, Thu 18 April 2024
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 5869320.
I reported the problem with this part of New Croft, however you repaired either side and not the section in the middle, directly inline with the doctors surgery carpark entrance. Since then the road surface has deteriated further and again today I tipped forwards out of my electric wheelchair, due to my front wheels getting caught in the rill in the centre of the road. Luckily no traffic was coming at this time, however at wheelchair hight it can be difficult to see, so was lucky this time. I have to use this part of the road to cross, as there are no other dropped kerbs near this point. I would also like to add that the condition of this section of road surface is breaking up and has loose tarmac, and if a car had to break, it would be harder to stop. I feel that this whole section needs resurfacing, as there are also other potholes which have also been reported, making this section of road dangerous. Also if you only choose to carry out miner repairs, the problem will just reoccur due to the porous of the road and the way running rain water will eat away at it. If you do not understand the particular problems of wheelchair users, I am happy to meet up with someone.

Although this problem is down for repair, this could take up to 26 weeks. Also I have this reported this area before, and the repairs which were carried out did not cover all the areas of issue. So I may wait 26 weeks, still to find my issue has not been resolved fully. And in those weeks of waiting, the road surface is only going to deteriate further. I would also like to add, that the particular issues, associated with a wheelchair user do not seem to be taken into account.

I did email a couple of local council members, but even they have not had the decency to get back in touch. So I guess I will have to continue to struggle on!

This section of road is now so bad that vehicles now swerve around these craters (not potholes anymore). The yellow indicator paint that you sprayed on has now faded and in some places disappeared altogether. I too have take a wheelchair across this road and it is extremely dangerous to have to navigate around the parked cars and the uneven road surface whilst looking out for speeding cars travelling along New Croft. I would respectfully suggest that you revisit the site and re-assess the work that needs to be done and the timescale you have allocated to this work.

The condition of this section on New Croft has deteriated even more, and I can only hope that the hole section will be resurfaced, as only patching it up will cause future issues.

Investigation: Completed (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Not Started - We can confirm the repairs scheduled are with our thermal machine which take a larger section or road and relay the whole area as opposed to patching. We hope to complete the work as soon as possible. Thank you.

If this work is 'scheduled' then surely you would have a rough idea or even an exact date for the work to take place and be completed. To say 'as soon as possible' is not working to a schedule. I note that the large section footpath around the corner in New Croft (which is in a poor state of repair) is down to be completed in 28 days. Why is it taking so long to repair this section of road where the elderly and disabled cross to access the doctors surgery? It is now 3 months (& counting) since it was first reported but yet the footpath, which is also used by the same elderly & disabled is being repaired in a third of the time. Please can you give us a date when you intend to carry out the work at the doctors surgery, after all it is 'scheduled' so you must have some idea when that will be. Have you revisited the site as I suggested in my previous comment to see how bad the road is now?

Can you please update when this work will be carried out as the latest date that you said it would be completed has arrived (24/20/24) with no sign of any work being started let alone completed. The road has deteriorated far worse than back in April when first reported and the yellow markings that were showing where the repairs should be have all disappeared. Do the wheelchair users (crossing the road to the Doctors surgery) and the traffic using this part of New Croft have to wait another 26 weeks (which will make it 1 year since first reported) before the work will be undertaken
