Blocked drains
Reported via mobile in the Blocked/Damaged category by Nigel Wadlow at 10:59, Sun 28 April 2024
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 5907326.
Between 7 and 9 Main Road drains both sides of the road are blocked causing large puddles. Excess water runs into number 7 and may be causing the cellar to flood. What3words: preparing.payback.takers This is not a one off but is a very frequent occurrence.

Although workmen have been seen the drain sucker team who arrived a few days later emptied the wrong drains and said that, as they were not on their worksheet, they could not empty the blocked ones (although they did have time for a tea break). Whilst writing why does a very large sucker lorry require another van with two operatives to put out ‘men at work’ signs?

Investigation: Completed (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Work Completed - The operatives who attended found that the mainline connected to all the gullies at this location was causing a concern, so have programmed a CCTV camera survey to determine where the issue is. Once this is identified they will be able to complete full repairs in the mainline to ensure all the gullies connected are functioning.
In regards to your query regarding our Traffic Management, this is required by health and safety laws to ensure both workmen and the public remain safe throughout the work. We have to ensure we comply with all laws and policies. This also includes employment laws as well, but we will ensure our Teams are aware of public perception with regards to the visibility of breaks. We hope this has clarified your concerns and assured you we will be carrying out further investigations here.

Although the report says it is fixed. This is not correct. The investigation has been completed but nothing has been done to fix the water retention and no mention has been made of the everlasting puddle.

Investigation: Completed (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Work Completed - We are aware of ongoing investigation and works here and can assure you this is ongoing, but as the initial investigation is complete the work ticket it automatically closed. We appreciate this is just the system and can assure you further work is ongoing. Due to the nature of drainage problems and work, they do take some time to resolve as it is not a simple fix. We appreciate your patience in this matter.

As far as I am aware the drain blockage has yet to be fixed. Likewise the water flow between the two drains has yet to be resolved.

The water still collects on both sides of the road. The drain on the north side was ‘by passed’ when the sucker machine was last seen. The south side was investigated, a blockage located, the pavement marked in yellow, the yellow markings have washed away and still no remedial work. Ideally a new drain will be installed at the lowest point to remove all surface water.

Sadly the painted instructions that the inspection team (3 people plus a traffic controller who sat in his vehicle all the time) have all washed away!! Meanwhile one drain remains permanently blocked and other drain needs repositioning.
