Vegetation overgrowing the path

Reported via mobile in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 12:46, Fri 31 May 2024

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6044133.

All the way down the Welton Road footpath behind Parker Academy the undergrowth is overhanging the path. The suckers from trees 3ft from the path have not been cut back and the shrubs and brambles are causing obstruction to pedestrians. In some places the trees are overhanging below 5ft in height. When it rains, it is impossible to walk along here without getting soaked. This is a busy path used by people with pushchairs and heavy shopping. No maintenance has been done up here over the winter and everything needs cutting back to the tree trunks.

  • The trees, shrubs and undergrowth are on the roadside verge which is owned by the council, not on private land. The metal fence is the school side. The school grounds are owned by the council, regardless of who is the tenant .This is the same verge that is cut occasionally by Norse. The current weather means that everything is growing more quickly and that the vegetation is often wet as pedestrians are walking past, so we get wet as well

  • The vegetation is on council land. If the maintenance has been outsourced to a third party, this does not make it privately owned.
