There is a very big tree on the a43 side of the fence but this has grown over to the meltham close car parking spaces and a garden, it’s costing a lot of time and effort to maintain the cars in our spaces because of this tree

  • Hi, sorry but this is not acceptable. The tree is damaging the cars who are parking there through the tree sap and I’ve spoken to my neighbour who was trying to landscape his garden and the roots are deep into his property. This tree will soon do structural damage to the homes if the roots are already causing issues deep into peoples gardens close to their homes

  • Investigation: Completed (Highways to Monitor, Routine Inspection Programme), Defect Repair: Rejected - We have inspected the area and found no safety concerns with regard to the highway. The tree is stable and healthy. West Northamptonshire Council can accept no responsibility for the tree leaf litter, seed drop, pollen, sap drop etc., as these are natural physiological occurrences only to be expected by trees. West Northamptonshire Council do not undertake tree works to facilitate the prevention of leaf litter, seed or sap drop in gardens or footpaths.

Generally, tree roots do not damage buildings. However, some of Northamptonshire soil has high clay content and this, when coupled with vegetation (trees or shrubs) can cause excessive moisture loss during periods of drought. If you think your property is affected this way, you should first obtain a structural survey (often via your own building insurance company). This should then be forwarded to Insurance Services, West Northamptonshire Council, insuranceclaims.ncc@westnorthants.gov.uk or telephone 0300 126 7000.
