Overgrown footpath with deteriorated curbing

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 19:39, Tue 11 June 2024

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6095483.

The footpath on Billing Road, both sides of the bus stop, is overgrown and the tarmac descending to the curb is broken, rutted and deteriorating. Mobility scooters commonly use this path, and one user trying to avoid being slapped in the face with brambles and tree branches almost overturned into the street. Stinging nettles also threaten the lower legs of pedestrians as well mobility scooter users. Can the overhanging vegetation be cut back, the edge strengthened and the soil pushed back to widen the footpath to ensure safer usage.

  • I am escalating this request on Fix My Street as while trying to avoid the vegetation, one day last week, the resident in question found that her scooter wheels got caught in the footpath’s crumbling tarmac and almost pitched her into the on coming traffic. As this is a Road Safety Issue, I would like the matter to be resolved urgently.

  • Nothing has changed. Footpaths are even more overgrown. Some residents have done a little cutting near their homes, but by and large it’s worse than before.

    This is not good.

  • I am escalating this issue again as this stretch is used by those with disability aids and it is a very real road safety issue. 26 weeks is far too long to leave this matter unattended. I would appreciate action earlier than proposed.
