Car Boot Traffic Chaos Crick

Reported via desktop anonymously at 15:38, Mon 22 July 2024

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6261310.

The Crick car boot as it stands, is a menace due to the cars queuing prior to the venue opening for vendors. This creates a problem, and danger, as cars block the roads either side of the entry gates compromising access into and out of the village.

Yesterday was an epic example as access was completely blocked with traffic gridlocking even the A428 Crick bypass at the island at the motorway end of the road. Traffic was queuing both from the West Haddon direction and back to the Holiday Inn preventing people going about their lawful business. Lorries trying to exit the CostCo industrial estate were blocked. Access into and out of Crick was completely blocked (see attached photograph).

This is entirely due to the late opening of the gates to the car boot for which I can only assume the organiser is entirely responsible. Typically this is an issue between 6.30 - 7am.

Yesterday however, this was the situation at 7.35am when I took the attached image.

This has to be unacceptable. I am all for a thriving car boot being available in the village but the organiser has to be held to account. In my view, they should either be barred from holding such events in future or, forced to ensure they open up for vendors no later than 6am. The would alleviate the problem and prevent the chaos we saw this weekend.
