This bridleway has been overgrown for years.

Reported via desktop in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category anonymously at 10:05, Thu 25 July 2024

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6273674.

The bridleway is overgrown. It should be maintained by highways regularly but it is not. The estate has grown up around this ancient bridleway but highways have not paid attention. Please advise customer when it will be cleared and also the plan for maintaining this.

  • Good morning Please see attached photos of the hedgerow within the bridleway, which is now overtaking my garden and damaged my fence. I have over the past 20 years periodically cut it back, but am now unable to. To inspect this you would need access to my garden which I am happy to oblige. I can be contacted on 07930688772. Thank you Chris Harkin.

  • Hi Thank you for you swift response. As the Highways dept have accepted liability for the maintenance of the bridleway can the following information be provided. When Highways cut back the vegetation to the bridleway will they also remove all overhanging vegetation from my property? Will Highways arrange to repair / replace my garden fence which is damaged by the vegetation from the bridleway? As all Public Highways have a regime in place for the inspection of every highway from a motorway to a footpath, please advise the shedule of inspection for this bridleway. Many thanks Chris Harkin

  • Hi thankyou for your response. Can you please answer the following two questions which were asked previously. Will Highways remove overgrown vegetation from the bridleway which has overgrown into my garden? I am happy to afford access. Will Highways repair or replace fencing which has been damaged by the bridleway vegetation? Many thanks Mr Chris Harkin.

  • Investigation: Completed (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Not Started - Within the Highways Act 1980 trees and side-growth on a Public Right of Way are the responsibility of the landowner. West Northamptonshire Rights of Way Team does not own the land over which this Public Right of Way bridleway passes. As previously stated we will be carrying out some vegetation clearance within the next 6 months to maintain the full width of the Public Right of Way. We trust this answers your query.
