Blocked highway surface water drain

Reported via mobile in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 12:03, Thursday 25 July 2024

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6274635.

The surface water drain at ///bootleg.grandest.books, east of the Millers Way bellmouth junction on the B4525 has been blocked for several years. During heavy rain, the junction floods with surface water travelling downhill to the next drain on Millers Way, some 30m away. This surface water presents a particular hazard in cold weather, when the road surface becomes icy. Standing water is also damaging the repaired road surface around the drain.

  • There has been no progress with this defect in 60 days (since marked as ongoing) or 75 days (since marked scheduled). The defect now presents a serious danger to road users and pedestrians. Additionally, the noise of vehicles going over the defect render the three bedrooms of my house unfit for sleeping. The drain being blocked is contributing to road erosion in wet weather.

  • Investigation: Completed (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Ongoing - Thank you for your enquiry. We can confirm that we have been made aware of this issue. A works order has been raised which you can follow on 6274635 and add updates. The expected completion date for these works will be on or before 27/1/25

Posted by West Northamptonshire Council at 13:11, Monday

  • An expected completion date of 27th January is more than six months since the first reporting activity date on this defect reference. In this time, the defect has progressed from a drainage inconvenience with minor surface damage to a serious danger to road users including cyclists and pedestrians, and their property. Loose road surface stones are being fired at pedestrians on the pavement by passing vehicles. The condition is deteriorating rapidly on a daily or hourly basis. Ignoring the escalated risk this defect presents leaves the local Highways Authority and their appointed contractor, Kier, directly liable.
