Flooding on council land at end of driveway.

Reported via mobile in the Blocked Ditch category anonymously at 09:27, Sunday 22 September 2024

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6498923.

We have council land that joins onto our driveway. When we have heavy rainfall the land floods into our driveway and we are unable to walk off our property without walking through flooded water on council land that does not have sufficient drainage in place for the water to drain away.

I feel it is not acceptable that I have to wear my wellies to carry my children over this flooded water on the school run as they cannot leave our property to walk to school without their feet and uniform getting wet. I also think it is unacceptable that our post person is unable to deliver our mail without getting their feet wet due to this flooding. This is the only way we have of entering and exiting our property and I do not feel we should have to suffer either getting wet feet or having to wear wellies just to enter / exit our property. I request that someone fixes the drainage issues to prevent future flooding.

  • Investigation: Ongoing - Thank you for your enquiry. West Northants received approximately 140mm of rain over a short period of time, resulting in severe flash flooding in many areas. The heavy rainfall had the ability to overwhelm the surface water drainage system. If your report is a repeat flooding incident, please could update this enquiry with further information, so that we can investigate. If this is not a repeat incident, we will close the enquiry after 7 days and the highways team will continue to monitor the location

  • Thank you for your response. I appreciate that this week we had more rain than normal, however, this is a repeat flooding incident. Whenever we have heavy rainfall the water from the council land floods into my driveway.

My neighbours seem to be unaffected by this, it only seems to affect my property.

The council land at the front of the house slopes into my driveway. There is insufficient drainage meaning that when we have heavy rainfall the water flows into my drive causing a huge puddle too deep to walk through without getting feet wet.

When our drive was paved we had aco drainage fitted to manage drainage from our driveway, however, there appears to not be any drainage system in place on the council land that slopes down into our drive. This means the system we had fitted to manage drainage from our driveway gets overwhelmed by rainfall coming off the council land causing a large puddle to form that we cannot walk through without getting feet wet. I request that sufficient drainage is installed to the council land to prevent future puddles/flooding onto our land.

    Thank you
