7 portway gardens, aynho ox17 3ar

Reported via desktop in the Blocked - flooding road/path category anonymously at 16:29, Thursday 26 September 2024

7 portway gardens, aynho ox17 3ar

I have attempted to report a drainage problem this morning. fix-my-steet advised that the category of the issue requires me to report it over the phone. the adviser took details but the call cut out as she was taking my contact details. as i had waited over 20 minutes to get through i am hoping that you will be able to link my details to the problem via this form. the issue relates to a blocked drain outside 7 portway gardens, aynho ox17 3ar. this is a recurrent problem that i have reported multiple times over the years. at the moment the water is flooding the street and the pavement; in previous years it has got high enough to flow through my garden. i would like to see the issue definitively fixed, rather than just having the drain jetted.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a fault. Officers will now investigate the concerns and this may take up to 5 working days. If you believe that your concerns are urgent then please phone us.

    State changed to: Investigating

Posted by West Northamptonshire Council at 16:30, Thursday 26 September 2024

  • Please link this report, which was made on Monday 23/9/24, to Report Ref 6502719 (https://fix.westnorthants.gov.uk/ report/ 6502719)

Ref 6502719 was closed today and the response is unsatisfactory. I am fully aware that the weather was particularly poor, but as I reported on 23/9/24 and as I state above this is a persistent problem. My expectation is that the matter will be addressed - simply monitoring the situation will not be an adequate response. If you require further information you have my contact details.

  • Investigation: Completed (Defect Found) - Thank you for your enquiry. West Northants received approximately 140mm of rain over a short period of time, resulting in severe flash flooding in many areas. The heavy rainfall had the ability to overwhelm the surface water drainage system. If your report is a repeat flooding incident, please could update this enquiry with further information, so that we can investigate. If this is not a repeat incident, we will close the enquiry after 7 days and the highways team will continue to monitor the location

  • This is a repeat incident - see Report Ref 6502719, to which I referred yesterday. I have also reported the issue several times previously over the 22 years I have lived at this property.

Once again the drain could not cope overnight and we awoke to another significant pool of water blocking access to our drive - see photo attached. As of now, and given the forecast, I think we may escape water actually flowing through our garden, as occurred on Monday 23/9/24, but the problem needs to be fixed. Twice in one week is unprecedented. It is only the beginning of Autumn and does not bode well for the coming winter.

  • Your team arrived this morning but apparently there was a technical problem with the truck and they were unable to complete the job. I was assured that the visit would be rescheduled. I'd like to reiterate that previous jetting has not cleared the problem, which recurs every time there is heavy rain. Can you please confirm that a permanent fix is envisaged.

  • Your team returned on Friday 22 November at around 13.00, just as I was leaving to go out. I understand that they had been tasked only to jet the drain.

Whatever they did whilst I was not at home had no effect - see photograph taken today after only a short period of heavy rain. Today's rain was far less intense than the storms we had in September.

The drain is at the lowest point in Portway Gardens and receives runoff from the whole street. It simply cannot cope. The team did not know where the drains run and suggested that if their work did not improve the situation a cctv examination would be required to establish where exactly the blockage is. My expectation now is that work will be undertaken to rectify the situation.

  • Further to my update earlier today herewith further photos. You can see how the water has risen and is now on the verge of flooding our garden again, this despite the rain being less than it was in September. I do wonder whether the work undertaken last Friday may have made matters worse.
