Investigating
Ford deepened and impassable, banks eroded
Reported via desktop in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 16:46, Monday 21 October 2024
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6642102.
This report responds to, and corrects the findings of an investigation carried out recently under previous report 6563961. The inspector who previously attended indicated that the ford could not be properly inspected as the water was running too deep, suggesting that it was running at a higher level than normal. The reality is that the ford runs at a constant level, since this is ultimately controlled by the Anglian Water levelling station located at What 3 Words location: Penny, Occur, Outbound. The waterway which forms the Dodford 'ford' joins another more substantial watercourse, known as the 'The Mill Race', 1 mile east of Dodford village at a point upstream of the referenced levelling station which controls the level of both water courses. The inspector has obviously made a reasonable, but unfortunately uninformed assumption regarding normal water levels in our ford, and in doing so has unknowingly identified the very problem reported previously under report 6563961. Could I please therefore request a further inspection to be carried out with the benefit of this vital knowledge.

Investigation: Completed (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Not Started - Thank you for your enquiry. A qualified Highways Inspector has assessed the location and in accordance with the WNC Highways Inspection Manual, a pre-emptive defect has been raised. This means that the location does not currently meet West Northamptonshire Council's criteria as an urgent safety defect. However, the repair will be scheduled to be completed alongside other maintenance works in the local vicinity. We will continue to monitor the condition as part of our routine highway inspection schedule. Should you notice the defect worsening, please inform us via an update to your existing enquiry.
