  • Hi - I've been meaning to report this for some time, I see someone has. I have previously attended to this leak in years past, but my 'solution' has not worked this time. Hence reason to message is that if a council engineer arrives at site not being familiar with the setup, they may not know how to sort this. So key point is that the drain that's inside the spring below outlet elbow (so directly below the pipe, behind the railings) has become blocked. I have previously unblocked this with a stick/pole in the past, but this time I can't appear to free the drain. Hence the spring is overflowing through the hole in the front brickwork into the ACO drain.. The separate drain in the ACO to the right of the spring is taking the majority of the flow, but it can't cope (see pic with ACO cover lifted) . Hence the overflow. The solution I believe is to remove the steel railing and get proper drain rods in to clear the original main drain. If your need any further details, please contact me. Thanks, James.

  • This is still not resolved. Today and on previously frosty days there is ice access the path. Someone will fall, someone will injure themselves.

    When will it be fixed?

  • Investigation: Completed (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Ongoing - Thank you for your enquiry. We attended this location on 23/01/25 and cleaned the channel, a further priority 4 ticket has been raised to clean and jet mainline from the war memorial to the surgery. This will take place within the next 26 weeks and will include the channel outlet.

  • Hi, I've noted the update above that someone has visited, but that a full jet/clear of the original drain (to confirm the one under the outlet NOT the ACO channel!!) to clear that could be 26 weeks away...?!? In which case it will be SUMMER before this is fixed. It's been frosty several nights this week and I've seen people slip on the ice, including young with pushchairs and older citizens going to the surgery. Surely it can be looked at quicker than 26 weeks!! regards, J.

  • I have contacted the environment agency about this and they have advised to make an official compliance against West Northamptonshire Council for the lack of action taken. There is now pond like stagnant water pooling all the way from where the water is leaking, all the way down to the entrance to Frog Hall. I have not seen anyone attend to even look at this issue and the channel certainly has not been cleaned out so these updates seem to be a work of fiction.

  • It’s getting worse and I’ve see a rat too ….

  • I have just cleared the problem. I lifted out the ACO drain covers by the grille. Cleared out the exit pipe from the gulley with a screwdriver, the water is now flowing down the drain and not across the footpath. I replaced the covers and it took less than 5 minutes. Until the drain is fixed properly , I suggest that when a blockage is notified, someone goes out and clears the ACO outlet with a screwdriver or similar or the broken ACO plastic pipe is repaired. • The latest update is not entirely correct. Whilst I am not doubting the attempt to resolve - water is still leaking across the path and flooding into the highway.

When will this be properly and fully resolved?

Posted anonymously at 13:07, Monday 28 April 2025

  • Hi West Northamptonshire council. I would like to confirm that this issue is indeed NOT resolved yet. I do applaud Cllr Dermot actions in attempting to clear the drain. In my opinion it still needs a through drain-jet and clear. I have in the past been that person spending several minutes clearing the drain, note that this is the ORIGINAL one inside the metal grill, not the 'after-thought' one added with the ACO channel externally. In the past I have managed to clear the original drain, but not recently I've tried and tried and it must be badly blocked now as I cannot clear it. The amount of overflow will vary as with the lower rainfall the rate of the spring flow declines. So I don't want this to be forgotten in the summer months just because the flow subsides, once it rains again, the large overflow will re-start. So WNC , please can you advise when this will be properly be looked at (still at the 20+ weeks, per above??!) regards, J.

  • Investigation: Ongoing (Defect Found), Defect Repair: Defect Found - Thank you for your further enquiry. The Drainage Team have attended and 'cleaned and tested aco channel now which was flowing. However further works are required to jet the mainline due to jetting capabilities and will be completed within the next six months.

  • Nearly a year since I reported this. The problem went away because of the dry summer (drought).

The rains have arrived - we have a frost forecast this week.

    When will this be resolved?

  • Investigation: Completed (Duplicate), Defect Repair: Defect Found - Thank you for your enquiry. We can confirm that we have been made aware of this issue and a works order has been raised on a routine safety inspection. The expected completion date for these works will be 19/06/26

  • Photograph of ice across footpath and highway. This is dangerous. Someone will get hurt. A target date of the summer for resolution (when we will likely be in a drought state) is irresponsible.
