Hedge cutting left on verge and being pulled into road

Reported via desktop in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 18:50, Sunday 5 January 2025

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6934801.

The hedge on the left hand side of the road (heading towards Wootton) has been cut as part of a hedge laying exercise and the large cut off branches and trimmings left on the verge and protruding in the public highway, where they are scratching passing vehicles and being pulled onto the carriageway by large vehicles. They all need totally removing from the verge.

  • On the 5.1.25 you said you would investigate within 5 days. It is now 38 days and the branches and trimmings are still on the verge and protruding into the highway and damaging passing cars. Under your Council Highways Manual it is stated:Private Ownership. Third parties are also required to maintain their property “to the reasonable satisfaction” of NCC. This may include, but is not restricted to: .....Verges. Any defect representing a significant immediate or imminent hazard immediately adjacent to the public highway shall be responded to as an emergency within a 2 hour response time and then recharged through Northamptonshire Highways Regulations team. Where a Priority-2 or non-urgent defect is identified immediately adjacent to the public highway a letter shall be sent to the occupier of the property requesting that the defect is rectified in a given timeframe. Please confirm that you have carried out one of the two above options as a matter of urgency.
