Playground does NOT adhere to BS EN 1176 Standards

Reported via mobile in the Parks/landscapes category by Abbie Griffith-Dickson at 11:19, Thursday 24 April 2025

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 7474845.

I work as a Creative Design & Technical Lead for Creating Play idverde (Chapel Brampton). I live on the estate, top end of Obelisk. I design for the installation of playgrounds, have extreme technical knowledge and know the BS EN 1176 standards extremely well (it's my job to).

Our local play area looks as if it doesn't adhere to standards in the slightest, and would unlikely pass maintenance inspections...

-Outward Gates do not shut fully -Persistent trip hazards, crumbling wet pour surfacing across the entire area -Roundabout is not smooth running -2.0m minimum runout definitely not provided at the bottom of the toddler unit slide -Fixtures and fixings not safe, many of them without safety caps posing finger entrapment hazards -Plastic is slowly facing embrittlement and old -No secondary safety chains on at least one of the setting sets -Persistent moss, mildew and weeds, posing risks for slippery surfaces across the area (particularly at the bottom of fireman's pole) -Crumbling of surfacing means that it will unlikely be achieving full safety standards of the BS EN117 standards and performing at limited capacity to achieve needed critical fall heights for equipment

Idverde Creating Play can help, offer support for maintenance, inspections, after care etc. I will happily manage myself! Living on the estate or breaks my heart that this play area is neglected amongst the many across the town. It's regularly used with local baby groups and with a school and nursery on the estate, near a shop etc - it's definitely and frequently used. Would really love to see it be bought back to life.
