No give way markings

Reported via mobile in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 07:35, Sat 10 May 2025

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 7547743.

At this cross road and the next turn towards the local shops there is becoming an increasing amount of near misses as people not familiar with the roads are using the estate. The crossroad is on a daily basis missed and near misses occurring. Cars going too fast as speed limit signs missing from the a4500. As the estate is 15 years old I feel that all this is well overdue and someone will get injured or killed soon. I have raised this crossroads with the local councillors with no response. All road markings are missing in this part of the estate with cars going incorrectly down the one way section to the a4500 on a regular occasion.

    State changed to: Investigating

  • Investigation: Completed (No Action Necessary) - The original design of the road junctions means that they have never been road marked nor traffic signs installed to indicate ‘give way’ since this section of Upton was developed in 2011.

From a road safety perspective, the layout of this residential area indicates that has a low speed limit and there is good visibility with street light illumination at night. This places a responsibility on both drivers and pedestrians to exercise a greater degree of caution, as every section of road network represents a risk to one type of road user or another. Our roads policing colleagues will always contact us during the very early stages of an investigation if they have any serious concerns about any section of the county’s road network.

We can only suggest that if there is strong request from residents for having the junctions painted and signed, you may wish to formally discuss the issue with the local Parish Council Welcome to Upton, Northamptonshire - Upton Parish Council and/or with the elected Councillors for the Upton area (Sixfields Ward), as details and considerations and the necessary funding have to be made regarding any physical changes to the public highway.
