New 30 signs installed

Reported via mobile in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category anonymously at 09:16, Fri 11 July 2025

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 7861037.

The very short section of 30 mph around the new junction for the development has no national speed limit signs to indicate where it finishes. It seems to indicate 30mph only for a very short section either side of the new access but without further signage it is impossible to tell how far the 30 zone extends. Either put up repeater signs to indicate the road continues as 30mph, install national speed limit signs to indicate that the 30 zone has finished, or if they have been put up preemptively for when the estate is occupied and finished, cover them up now.

  • We are now getting Speed Tracker alerts for these signs - which are obviously incorrect. Incorrect signage only one 30 speed sign, needs to be on both sides of road.

  • Potential breach of Traffic Regulation Order on Roman Road towards Nobottle from the direction of Duston. Between April and July two single 30 mph signs have appeared on the nearside verges just prior to Green Lodge Barn listed as Wayman Architects on Google Maps. The current speed limit for this road is 60mph. I am aware of TRO 2068 where there is a proposal to lower the national speed limit from 60 to 50mph between Nobottle and Main Street, Brington. The signs I refer to are prior to this and situated between the property of Green Lodge Barn. As you exit Duston via the new roundabout at Berrywood/Sandy Lane on to Roman Road there are currently two national speed limit signs. However around 100 meters prior to Green Lodge Barn there is a single 30mph sign attached to a new permeant post. There is no offside sign. As you pass the property where there is currently some development work being carried out on the land next to the buildings there is no national speed limit sign. This means that by law the speed limit from this point to the other side of Nobottle is 30mph. I can find no TTRO/TRO or consultation for this section of road. The signs appear new and of permanent fixing. The section concerned is very short and seems to focus on the entrance to the area where work is being carried out. The signs are not of a temporary road works nature; I cannot find a TTRO for such work and the section concerned is dangerously short. When driving back in the opposite direction from Nobottle towards Duston the same thing occurs. There is a single 30mph sign on the N/S and nothing on the offside. THIS SIGN IS IN DIRECT CONFLICT WITH THE TWO NATIONAL SPEED LIMIT SIGNS BY THE RA (is it 30 or 60mph). As you approach the new roundabout at Sandy Lane/Berrywood there are still two fully compliant 30mph signs as you enter the village. There appears to be a conflict here. I would also suggest such confusion could be used in court as a defence by those caught speeding in Nobottle by the mobile camera van.
