Inappropriate direction signs for the new sandy lane
Reported via mobile in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category anonymously at 12:51, Tue 23 September 2025
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8202846.
The new sandy lane (locally known as road to nowhere) has different places named vs the old one.
Signs on the old sandy lane are also sill in place, although party obscured with spray paint from then the road was partly closed.
For example, old sandy lane had signs for Althorp and Lodge farm industry (lorry sign) but they are not on the new junction / new road.
Also the new signs show A428 not in brackets. But my understanding of Highway Code / sign rules is road number is in brackets when it points towards that road rather than it being the road number specifically.
Even when heading from sixfields, isn’t it now better to direct Lorries to the new sandy lane for lodge park, rather than them using bants lane / harleston road. I thought that was one of the planned benefits of the new road to reduce pressure on bants lane

Today I witnessed a car driving the wrong way down the A4500 dual carriageway. This was a head on collision waiting to happen. Thankfully the cars going the correct way on the dual carriageway were all able to pull in from the outside lane to the inside lane. I can only assume that the driver of the car going the wrong way was confused by the lack of signage on the New Sandy Lane junction. I put a message on my local Facebook page to warn others of this, but this message received comments from others saying that this ‘happens all the time.’ It is highly dangeroucars to have cars driving the wrong way down the A4500 dual carriageway! The incident happened going from the Kislingbury roundabout towards the New Sandy Lane junction.
