Gate is obstructive

Reported via desktop in the Gate - Damaged/ Missing category anonymously at 18:51, Thursday 6 November 2025

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8386228.

Any structure on PRoW should be the 'least restrictive option'. This gate, which has been reported previously but no change made, has a chain and latch at low level, is heavy to move and the surface is deep mud. The gate should be improved or replaced with a d-loop latch and long handle for safer use, particularly as it is adjacent to the road in a blindspot. The surface should be repaired, with a non-slip material that allows for drainage of the surface water.

  • Thank you for the update and the positive action planned to replace the gate. Ideally the gate would open away from the road, not be weighted (self-closing is better), have a D-loop instead of a straight bolt striker and a trombone handle is preferred to a straight handle. BHS would also like to know how the surface issues (deep mud) will be addressed.
