Gate is obstructive
Reported via desktop in the Gate - Damaged/ Missing category anonymously at 18:51, Thursday 6 November 2025
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8386228.
Any structure on PRoW should be the 'least restrictive option'. This gate, which has been reported previously but no change made, has a chain and latch at low level, is heavy to move and the surface is deep mud. The gate should be improved or replaced with a d-loop latch and long handle for safer use, particularly as it is adjacent to the road in a blindspot. The surface should be repaired, with a non-slip material that allows for drainage of the surface water.

Thank you for the update and the positive action planned to replace the gate. Ideally the gate would open away from the road, not be weighted (self-closing is better), have a D-loop instead of a straight bolt striker and a trombone handle is preferred to a straight handle. BHS would also like to know how the surface issues (deep mud) will be addressed.
