Poor road surface

Reported via iOS in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 17:47, Wednesday 14 January 2026

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8689153.

The road surface is broken in this area and we have just experienced the car being jerked over by the condition of the road, in an area where there are other vehicles to the side of you. This was at a low speed having just left the roundabout. It would be much worse for 2 wheeled vehicles if they catch this.

  • Terrible coming around this roundabout if you are in the inside lane, your back wheel come away from you as there are so many pot holes and unlevel surface here. You have nowhere to go but down the holes.

  • Still in poor condition and getting worse, dangerous for motorcyclists, not repaired in the 59 days suggested!

  • "Update 02/04/2026: URGENT SAFETY CONCERN.

It is noted that the Council has been aware of this defect since 14th January, yet the latest update today (02/04) pushes the repair date back to July 17th.

This is a high-volume transit route. By deferring this repair for another 100+ days, the Council is knowingly allowing thousands of vehicles—including heavy HGVs and vulnerable motorcyclists—to strike a broken surface that causes 'jerking' and loss of traction on a busy roundabout exit every single day.

A 'Priority 4' classification is entirely inappropriate for a defect that compromises vehicle control in high traffic. I am formally requesting an immediate reassessment to Priority 1 or 2 to mitigate the clear risk of a collision or injury before July."

  • Still no repair , I reported this last year clearly a poor repair from the Council and their contractor .

  • There are now a group of severe potholes, especially toward the left side of the left hand lane as you move away from the roundabout towards Moulton Park. The one nearest a drain cover is likely half a foot in depth, with another of similar depth nearby.

I slowed to around 15mph on this bend this morning to try to avoid them, however it is impossible. It’s only a matter of time before these cause damage to someone’s car (or worse) and will need repair in advance of July

  • See photo attached. Deep pothole located next to drain, with the left lane covered in other craters.

  • This section of the road is hazardous to life. I am seeing frequent near misses. It is also extremely dangerous for the pedestrian crossing as drivers are concentrating so hard to miss all the potholes it becomes harder to look further ahead to see the traffic lights. 17th July is serious neglect. Council tax has now gone up and yet there is nothing to show for it.

  • The Council’s "Priority 4" (July/September) repair date fails to account for the dangerous increase in driver cognitive load caused by this cluster of defects.

Navigating this "minefield" forces drivers to fixate on the road surface immediately in front of them, distracting them from critical safety hazards like the nearby pedestrian crossing, merging traffic, and signaling.

By deferring this repair for months, the Council is knowingly creating a high-distraction environment on a busy transit route. This significantly increases the risk of human error and potential collisions. I am requesting an immediate safety reassessment based on the risk of driver distraction, not just pothole depth.
