Very dangerous pothole, long, sharp and deep

Reported via mobile in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 21:00, Wednesday 4 February 2026

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8841079.

Location: Whittlebury Rd 52°05'33.5"N 1°01'09.5"W Date observed: 04/02/2026 Time observed: 18.35 Description of defect: There is a large, deep pothole in the nearside wheel track on this road. The defect has broken and crumbling edges and is holding standing water, which makes the depth difficult to judge. The pothole appears to have formed along the join of a recently laid section of tarmac, suggesting surface failure where new and existing road materials meet. Road conditions: Road is downhill Very poor lighting / pitch black at night No warning signs, cones, or temporary markings present at the time of observation. Defect is not visible until very close due to darkness and water Risk to road users: This pothole presents a significant hazard to vehicles, cyclists, and motorcyclists, particularly at night and in wet conditions. The size and depth mean it has the potential to cause sudden vehicle damage or loss of control. Action requested: Please arrange an urgent inspection and repair of this defect to prevent further incidents. Photographs attached show the pothole, surrounding road surface, and its position within the carriageway.
