Pavement slabs relaid by Utilities uneven and flooding
Reported via desktop in the Slabs - Uneven / Damaged / Cracked category anonymously at 19:15, Tuesday 24 February 2026
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8991969.
The footpath slabs were lifted by Utilities firm (cannot recall which but Anglia Water I think). Over time 2 adjacent footpath slabs have significantly subsided into each other and have been flooding. The flooding and general dip is a dangerous trip hazard as this footpath / corner is a major route used by schoolchilren and parents on foot on their way to Parklands Primary and Northampton School for Girls. The Parklands estate is also heavily concentrated with bungalows so path is used daily by elderly on foot and also mobility scooters (I appreciate they should be on roads but many still use paths). Council has recently planted a new sapling tree also directly outside the house on the same footpath so when path was flooding last week it is making jumping over the flood or walking around it awkward. The work done initially by the Utilities firm was pretty shoddy (see pic of poorly concreted edge) where we unhelpfully had our hedge roots all covered and concreted in !!!! But over the time, the slabs they relaid and which looked fairly even at the time have now dipped/subsided significantly which is a real issue in heavy rain but a general hazard at all other times.
