Bridleway bridge impossible to pass

Reported via mobile in the Gate - Damaged/ Missing category anonymously at 10:33, Friday 1 May 2026

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council 3 days, 21 hours, 38 minutes later. ref: 9384061.

Small bridge with gate to sheep’s field on public bridleway. Gate is impossible to shut and open on a horse. Gate has to be lifted and pushed to open. It does not fully open and has to be really shoved to get just wide enough for a horse to fit through. Once open it does not shut without lifting and pulling hard. This is impossible on a horse as there is no space to stand. Very dangerous for horse and rider in small enclosed space and one horse has sustained a cut from panicking. Gate has weight on it that causes it to fall back as hinges need addressing. This gate should be set on hinges so it matches lock and doesn’t require pulling shut or put on the other end of bridge for safety reasons so closes behind you and requires closing when in the field not trapped on a small bridge. Please address urgently as this is an accident waiting to happen.
