Ramps have been drilled into the road surface

Reported via mobile anonymously at 19:41, Wednesday 8 July 2026

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 9756304.

Ramps have been drilled into the road surface to allow access for vans to be parked on the front garden.

These permanent ramps narrow the roadway for passing vehicles, reduces potential temporary on road parking in the area, causes hazards to road users including pedestrians and cyclists, obstructs drainage, and has compromised the road surface allowing water ingress and early surface failure.

These should be removed to reopen the roadway as intended and an assessment of damage to the carriageway to avoid early deterioration be made.

These are not in keeping of a quiet residential street and negatively impact the aesthetics of the area.

Please can someone investigate the permanent alteration of the carriageway.

The main legislation is the Highways Act 1980. Relevant sections include:

Section 131 – Makes it an offence to damage a highway without lawful authority or excuse.

Section 137 – Covers wilful obstruction of the highway.

Section 148 – Covers depositing things on the highway that interrupt or endanger users.

Section 184 – A person must obtain consent from the highway authority before constructing a vehicular access across a footway or verge.
